Meditation helps to maintain a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, through a gentle, nurturing lens. When we practice meditation, our thoughts tune in to what we’re sensing in the present moment rather than rehashing the past or imagining the future. Meditation cultivates compassion and creates a state of pure awareness of thoughts, emotions and sensations without reacting. Over the past 100 years, there are thousands of studies showing the physical and mental benefits of meditation, including strengthens our immune system, decreases stress, may decrease blood pressure, relieve pain, and improves sleep, focus and emotional well-being. Research also shows meditation changes our brains by increasing density of gray matter in brain regions linked to learning, memory, emotion regulation, and empathy. You may experience the many benefits of meditation through daily practice.
